Marathons?

Some people might wonder way i am running marathons this year. Well it all started when Nettie from Portage asked me to be on a 5 person relay team for the Manitoba marathon. I couldn't have imagined going and not doing the hole thing. So i told my wife to do it so i could do the hole distance. Then my wife wanted to go to Vancouver to see her cousins and me having to do some kind of an event every time i go on holidays found the Vancouver Marathon ( SWEET ) Should be fun 15,000 racers all together and i have never ran a marathon before but now i am doing 2 one in May and one in June. Another reason i wanted to do more running is because there is a duathlon race in Wasagaming that i have been wanting to do for a long time but have never had the running legs going into the race which is in August. I might try to hit the odd bike race as well but nothing is for sure yet. In the end it is all about staying fit, having fun and spending time with family.

What happens when......

What happens when there is a snow storm and you are in the potato business and are the only one who can haul spuds because your storage is so close to the McCain's french fry plant . Well you get stuck hauling 1,700,000 lbs of raw potatoes in 17hrs Saturday threw Sunday to keep the plant running.I am just starting to feel normal today.

Bumper Crop Expected Across Canada

Bumper Crop Expected Across Canada

Potato acreages across Canada are expected to be up this year, with yields to match.

Statistics Canada’s potato production estimates for 2012 report a three per cent acreage increase over 2011 plantings. Leading the increase in planted acres are processing potatoes, thanks to increases in processing contracts across most provinces, although fresh potato acres are also expected to be up slightly. Shortage may not be a word that’s used much this year as potato growers across Canada are preparing for a bumper crop.
Yields have been trending below average for the past couple of years, which has created some supply shortages across North America. Last year’s market was so under-served that some potato sheds on Prince Edward Island shut down early due to the lack of raw product, but that has also kept prices strong. “When you are under-serving the market, the prices are strong and there is more acreage in response to that,” says Gary Linkletter, chair of the Prince Edward Island Potato Board. “This year looks like it may be a good yield year across North America, and if that continues we will have a good supply here.”

Point 2 Point Recap report updated

Lots of info here http://www.facebook.com/PCpoint2point Had a great time and a great ride.Felt good except for some back stiffness half way through. Great trail with pretty much all single track with lots of climbing and some long fast descents that were pretty rough in spots. Trails were wet at the start then started to dry then a storm came in hail ,rain, and high winds and made the trails wet again. Super cool venue and a great race director. Most long races i have done always had long sections of road but not this one you're really mountain biking.I just loved it  !!  I was going to post some pictures but there are lots on there facebook page.

This really sucks!!!

Friday August 10, 2012

Regrettably due to a number of contributing factors, it is with sincere sadness that I announce the cancellation of the 2012 World 24 Hour MTB Championships scheduled to be held in Canmore Alberta Canada September 14 – 16, 2012.

Today is a hard day… it’s like the loss of a family member. I’m sad for all the racers (and families) who trained hard and devoted resources to being in Canmore this September. I’m sad for those in the community of Canmore that supported our desire to build a world-class event. I’m disappointed and sad beyond belief at the cancellation today, which is a real blow for the whole endurance family.

That said, a number of situations this past month leaves us with no alternative but to cancel. This is not a decision that was made lightly and I know that many of the current entrants will be upset with this decision however, at this point, it would be irresponsible to continue with the event. It was determined (yesterday) that it would not be economically and administratively feasible to keep the event on the calendar.

The priority has always been to ensure that the event lives up to the required standards of the participants, which it cannot do without proper funding. Twenty4 Sports (T4S) who is contracted to operate the event is disappointed as well.

Dating back to 1998 when it was decided that we (Trilife Sports International) would underwrite the creation of a world championship (1999), this event was always dedicated to showcasing the best endurance athletes. It’s been our vision to provide the endurance community with the ultimate test for both elite and age group mountain bike athletes.

After announcing that Canmore, Alberta Canada would host the championships back in August of 2011, W24C have worked hard based on a “not for profit” model to provide the best possible event for all athletes involved. An Athletes Assistance Program was created, which had the top elite racers committed to the race. What looked to be an epic battle on paper had the best international group of elite racers attending in the 13-year history. At the end of the day while other areas (lack of sponsorship support) challenged our resources it was the recent loss of overall participation numbers, over the past two weeks that finally made the decision inevitable

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused people in their training plans and holiday commitments and remain optimistic that we will find the support that our sport deserves in order to continue to highlight our best to the world.

Refunds to all racers who had not cancelled or had outstanding balances will be completed within 72 hours.

Sincerely,

Stuart Dorland – founder
